Sunday, April 30th will see visually impaired and inspirational runner Sinead Kane, a Co Cork native, take to the streets of Limerick in support of Irish charity ‘
Cliona’s Foundation’ as part of the Barringtons Hospital Great Limerick Run.
Despite having just 5 per cent vision and only taking up running five years ago, January 2017 saw Sinead Kane run into the record books as the first visually impaired athlete to complete the World Marathon Challenge. She conquered seven marathons on seven continents in seven days. Having been approached by Cliona’s Foundation to support the charity on her home turf in Limerick, the runner readily agreed.
Terry Ring, founder of Cliona’s Foundation says “It is just fantastic that Sinead has agreed to run the Marathon for Cliona’s Foundation. Having only met her recently and spoken to her about the work we do, she said she would love to do something for the Foundation.”
We subsequently thought why not ask her to compete in the Barrington’s Hospital Great Limerick Run, thinking it may be a long shot. She agreed without hesitation for her and her guide runner John O Regan to sign up for Cliona’s Foundation.”
“It will also give the thousands who line the route of the Great Limerick Run the opportunity to give the 34 year old Cork native the worthy recognition and acknowledgement for her amazing achievements”.
Cliona’s Foundation was founded in 2007 by Terry and Brendan Ring following the death of their daughter Cliona from an inoperable brain tumour. They financial assistance to families in Ireland who have children with a life limiting illness and are incurring costs associated with caring for them over a long period of time.
