Improving your overall health and wellness should be a priority as we age. After all, when we’re in our twenties, it’s easy to dismiss the little niggles and signs of inferior health. But, as we get a little bit older, the wear on our bodies starts to show and we appreciate those creature comforts that make life more comfortable.
Here are three ways to help improve your wellness and health in 2017.
Get Enough Sleep
Sleep is a vital aspect of being human. During the night, our body goes to work repairing any immune system problems, addresses obesity complications, calms stress, balances anything that’s out of balance, and corrects blood sugar levels. Of course, there’s also a repair cycle that heals physical wounds and helps the body fight disease too.
Without enough sleep, we’re seriously impaired. This is even truer as we get a little older. Even when drinking coffee or an energy drink, too little sleep the night before harms concentration and physical performance the next day. We don’t have that usual bounce in our step and ideas don’t flow like they used to. Oh, and if you think that drinking alcohol before bedtime will help you sleep better, you’re wrong. You may get off to sleep, but it will be a restless night.
Attitude of Gratitude
It’s easy to see the world as always half empty and not half full. We only have to look at the newspapers or online news to find negative, bombastic headlines aimed at getting the emotions churning because that makes good copy. The problem with this is it doesn’t make us happy. In fact, it’s kind of depressing to see all the bad news around the world. It’s also difficult to be grateful for anything either.
Take a different approach. Control the amount of negative media that enters your personal world. Find things in your life and around you that you’re grateful for. If you look, you will find examples of people and things that you’re pleased are available, happening, or exist to make life that little bit better. Being grateful puts a calming look on your face, relaxes your body, and adjusts your disposition into a positive frame of mind. Such people attract other like-minded souls who also wish to be more focused on the good in the world and not the bad.
Keeping You & Your Pet(s) Healthy
Going for a walk around nature is a healthy activity. Even light exercise for half an hour is enough to provide benefits when performed 4-5 days a week. When your circadian rhythms are out of whack – this helps to regulate sleep patterns – moving around in nature provides a natural reset switch for them. Cortisol levels, which rise during stressful situations, are also adjusted through the calming visuals that let the body realize that it’s not in any danger and to relax.
Taking your favorite furry friend along with you is a great way to share the enjoyment. Your dog likely doesn’t get enough exercise anyway. At times, they might need a bit more encouragement or a supplement like Canna-Pet that may help alleviate painful symptoms.
Focusing on some basics is a great idea for improved health. Wellness starts with getting the mind clearer and the body better able to handle the inevitable adversities of life. When taking the right steps, you’ll wake up feeling refreshed and not already tired before the day’s even gotten started.
