A startup aimed at making it easier to find and book a place to play sport has launched in Dublin. It’s the first service of its kind that allows people to find and book the best sports pitches and courts in Dublin online.
MyLocalPitch was established as a result of two sportsmen’s frustration trying to find and book sports venues, an issue most amateur sports players have probably faced.
Jamie and Sandford’s idea took hold while they were trying to organize their Sunday league pitch. Since then it has taken on 900 facilities in the UK, and has 50,000 hits each month.
They’ve launched with the help of Freddy, a Dubliner who works for the startup, and have already signed up the Astropark group, who operate pitches in Tallaght and Coolock, as well as the National Sports Campus, Dublin Indoor Football, the dlr Leisure Services pitches and Powerleague Spawell.
Cofounder and CEO Jamie Foale said on the launch, “We were looking at where to launch next in the UK, but Freddy said we should consider Dublin – they have fantastic venues and a very active and sporty population. Booking a venue was an issue he had growing up in Dublin, and given his knowledge of the local market it made a huge amount of sense. We’re here to make it a success and help Dubliners play more sport.”
