Pack Your Health Apps for Your Next Trip

November 5, 2012 by newsdesk

When traveling, safety is a key concern, but we often spend so much time worrying about losing our wallets and and keeping the family together that we forget that there are a lot of different types of safety to consider. Physical health should be a top priority and opportunities to stay healthy come in many forms. Staying safe while on the road means staying healthy. Here are some high tech tips to stay happy and healthy wherever you’re headed.

Health Apps

Health apps like iTriage can help you to figure out if you’ve caught a bug by analyzing your symptoms. It’s easy to become a hypochondriac and spend all day looking up every tiny thing from a sore toe to sweaty underarms, but when you actually have a cold while you’re stuck in an airport in India, you’ll be as glad to have a health app as you are to have Lifelock.org to keep your identity safe while traveling. One can see a side-by-side comparison of services with other companies. Having this peace of mind in your back pocket throughout your trip is highly valuable.

Up to the Minute Reports

If you’re going to travel somewhere, you’re going to be getting the appropriate vaccinations and shots, but when a flu breaks out in Hong Kong while you’re already on the plane, what is there to do? One thing you can do to stay healthy is use your smartphone or laptop to stay up to date on what’s going on wherever you’re about to land. Picking up the right medicine or finding a pharmacy or health center where you can get the appropriate shots during a layover may save you from spending the entire vacation in bed watching television.

Running Apps

If you like to stay healthy by running, you’ll find that you might not know how to get a good run in when you’re staying in a hotel and too often we use this as an excuse to skip a day, or a week, of running, because we don’t know how many blocks in Paris or New York makes up a full mile compared to our neighborhood back home. Well a running app like Nike+ GPS can let you know exactly how far you’ve gone, meaning that you can run the equivalent of your normal route no matter where you are in the world.

Better Naps with the Right Apps

Here’s a cool app that you can use to get some rest on the road: Sleep Time by Azumio. This app actually monitors your signals and then wakes you up during the very lightest part of your sleep cycle, ensuring less grogginess and allowing you to spring awake, ready to hit the beach or take that tour of the city. Too often when traveling we skip out on fun stuff because we would just rather sleep in. With Sleep Time you can get just the right amount of sleep in the hotel or on the plane, popping awake at the very best possible moments. It sounds like Sci-Fi, but it can help you stay healthy and energized during your vacation.

Restaurant Research

Different parts of the world have different ideas on what sort of standards they should be holding themselves to in the restaurant industry. It’s fun to wander the streets and head into any restaurant that looks nice, but you can save a lot of trouble by doing a quick search on your smartphone to make sure that the place you’re heading into hasn’t been hit with health code violations lately. Also, you can see menus, specials, and hours of operation to make sure you have enough time to slide in for some tasty eats.

Staying healthy on the road is important. Keeping your identity safe and your belongings intact are imperative on any trip, whether it’s backpacking through Europe or heading down the West Coast on an eating tour. Just be careful and use the technology available to you to get the most out of your vacation.
