Registration for the 38th SSE Airtricity Dublin Marathon has officially opened for 2017. Like the 2016 edition, the 2017 race will take place on the Sunday of the October Bank Holiday with the date confirmed for 29th October, 2017.
Organisers have confirmed that capacity for the marathon will remain at 19,500, making the Dublin SSE Airtricity Dublin Marathon the fourth largest marathon in Europe.
Race organisers have advised interested participants to sign up early. Unlike previous years, there will be no guaranteed date to secure an entry, with spaces being allocated on a first come, first serve basis. The 2016 event which sold out with unprecedented demand, was last night awarded “Best Mass Participation Event” at the Irish Sports Industry Awards recognising the popularity, enthusiasm, and professionalism of the event.
Race Entry is priced at €70 up until the 1st of July 2017, with monthly increases thereafter should places remain available.
Race director, Jim Aughney commented:
“Thirty seven years ago, we never could have imagined the Dublin Marathon would have grown so much! 2016 was an amazing year with so many runners taking part. We were very sorry that for the first time ever we had to turn people away. We are therefore encouraging everyone who missed out last month to get their name down early for 2017. Running 26.2 miles through Dublin and experiencing the energising atmosphere is indescribable – and something everyone should do at least once.”
