The Lord Mayor of Dublin, Councillor Brendan Carr together with organisers of the SSE Airtricity Dublin Marathon are seeking nominations for the 2016 Lord Mayor’s Medal.
The Lord Mayor’s Medal, inspired by the efforts of all who partake in the SSEAirtricity Dublin Marathon each year, is presented to one runner who has either exceeded incredible odds to partake in the 2016 marathon or has an inspiring story fuelling their marathon journey.
The specially commissioned medal was first presented to 2009 finisher Martin Codyre, who was involved in an accident that left him paralysed and in need of 24-hour care. His brother and friend pushed him around the course to help him complete his marathon goal.
Kieran McCarthy, was awarded the medal in 2015, recognising his fundraising efforts for TLC4CF and the Clare Crusaders Clinic. Kieran took on the challenge of running the SEE Airtricity Dublin marathon inspired by his daughter, Aoibheann (8) who suffers from Cystic Fibrosis.
Not content with completing the marathon, Kiernan as part of the ‘Team Aoibheann’ Challenge, started his marathon day with a 200km cycle from Dublin to Shannon, where he swam 10km, and cycled 200km back to Dublin all before lining up to take part in the 2015 SSE Airtricty Dublin Marathon.
The Lord Mayor and SSE Airtiricity Dublin marathon organisers are now seeking nominations for the 2016 Lord Mayor’s Medal which will be presented before the start of this year’s race on Sunday 30th October 2016.
Nominations can be sent by email to marathon@whpr.ie no later than midnight on 16th October 2016.
