Motorsport Ireland Kart Race Committee announced today that they have made an arrangement with University College Dublin Sports and Fitness Department to develop a training programme for Kart Race Drivers. This is a new departure not only for Motorsport Ireland but also for U.C.D. as they have no current motorsport specific training plans available. The Sports and Fitness centre of U.C.D. will be starting from the ground up to design a specialised programme for Karting competitors.

Six drivers attended U.C.D. for an assessment on the19th of August, where project leader Chris Chapman evaluated all drivers individually at their state of the art facility. Based on his findings he will develop a suggested fitness regime that the selected candidates will follow over the coming months.
In early September he will be joined by another colleague who will specifically look at creating a complementary sports diet and nutrition programme to further enhance the training.
Brian Kavanagh, Chairman Karting Committee Said: “The Motorsport Ireland Kart Race Committee is very pleased with this initiative. This is part of its strategic plan for the development of Kart Race competitors within the sport and as it develops over the coming months we hope to see it become an important feature of a driver’s preparation. This will be a vital ingredient for any competitor hoping to compete in European or world events where athletic stamina is as important as driving skills.”

Motorsport Ireland look forward to working closely with Chris Chapman of U.C.D. to develop a world class programme for Motorsport Ireland Kart competitors.
