This morning queues of charity marathon runners, all sporting their best fancy dress costumes, lined up outside the ASICS flagship store on Oxford Street. The fancy dress runners were waiting eagerly in line to have their free gait analysis, courtesy of sports performance brand ASICS.
To make sure participants are fully prepared for next month’s London marathon, ASICS is offering a free Foot ID and gait analysis to all costumed runners, providing essential information on running style and the running shoes that would be best for them.
ASICS has recognised the growing community of marathon runners now taking to the streets in fancy dress costumes, raising money for their favourite charity or as a challenge to reach the next level and wanted to help them achieve their goals.
London charity marathon runner Vincent O’Neill, who stars in ASICS’ latest brand campaign, competed in last year’s London Marathon wearing the 11kg rhino outfit on behalf of Save the Rhino International, completing the course in a staggering time of 4hours 17minutes.
O’Neill is the latest athlete to feature in the new ASICS brand campaign, titled ‘Journey of Improvement’, designed to motivate and inspire sportspeople to achieve their goals.
James Ledingham, Store Manager said, “ASICS is offering participants in the London Marathon the chance to have a complementary Foot ID and gait analysis if they come into the flagship store dressed in their fancy dress costume before 24th March.”

Foot ID and Gait Analysis:
The Food ID service usually has a charge of £30 if no shoes are purchased but no charge is issued when a pair of shoes are bought in store
3D Foot Mapping
-
The advanced 3D Foot Mapping System analyses your foot using laser and micro cameras. The result is a 3D scan of your foot, which is compared to a database to find the shoes that match your feet best.
-
Measurements made by the system include foot length, forefoot width, ball girth, arch height and heel tilt.
-
After your Foot ID session, you can also access your 3D foot scan online, in your personal account.
Gait Cycle Analysis
-
Your gait cycle is analysed using video. This involves walking on a treadmill for a few minutes while your feet are filmed. The images are then analysed by an ASICS expert.
-
The focus of gait analysis is to measure your degree of pronation. Pronation is the way the foot rolls inward when you walk and run.
- Based on this analysis you can try on shoes that match your pronation pattern. A correct shoe type will counter overpronation or underpronation, thus helping to reduce the risk of injury and improving running efficiency.
