Aura Leisure Ireland and the Boyne Swim

Are you brave enough to battle the Boyne?!

The newly titled Aura Boyne Swim will take place on Saturday the 16th June 2018 (Start time TBC)

Drogheda Triathlon Club will host the Aura Boyne Swim 2018 once again with the continued and greatly appreciated support of Drogheda Port Company and Louth County Council.

The Inaugural Boyne Swim took place in 2014 and was a huge success with 150 swimmers taking up the challenge of completing the 2.7km course.

The number of swimmers taking part each year has grown steadily and the Boyne Swim is now a highly anticipated annual event for both open water swimmers and triathletes alike, competing for the beautiful perpetual trophies for overall Male, Female and Junior swimmer which were commissioned by Drogheda Port Company and designed by local sculptor Ronan Halpin.

Rising in the Bog of Allen, County Kildare, the historic River Boyne flows 113km northeast to enter the Irish Sea just below Drogheda at Mornington County Meath. June is the perfect time for the swim with water temperatures ranging in between 10° to 13° Celsius.

Swimmers are encouraged to wear wetsuits but those who are brave enough often take part in togs of all shapes and sizes…

Ray Donagh of the Boyne Swim says, “Drogheda Triathlon Club invite you to take part in this majestic swim in the River Boyne through the historic town of Drogheda and see it like you never saw it before. We are looking forward to launching the event and promoting it to a much wider audience so that they can experience the wonder of open water swimming.”

Aura Leisure’s Chief Executive, Staff and Members are absolutely delighted to be partnering with the organisers of the Boyne Swim, “It is a brilliant event on the Irish Open Water Swimming Calendar and one that people of all levels can take part in. We are hugely passionate about swimming and it is our goal to try and teach as many Irish people how to swim as possible. It’s just another step on our way to helping create a healthier and happier Ireland”

Aura Leisure will also be working closely with their Swim Coordinators and Teachers to run training programs in their 10 leisure centres for those who are looking to take part for the first time, keep an eye on their website for further details.
