It’s the final push down the finishing straight for the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon and Festival of Running as the closing date for entries nears. Runners planning to take part in the Loch Ness Marathon, River Ness 10K and 5K have until 5 September to sign up and join thousands of other entrants on the start line.
Thousands of runners have already entered the five races on the programme for Sunday, September 25 and organisers expect this number to increase with the usual last-minute dash to snap up places.

The event, which takes place in the Highland capital of Inverness, celebrates its 15th anniversary this year. It has raised huge amounts of money for charity – official partner Macmillan Cancer Support expects its team of runners to generate over £95,000 this year alone.
In addition to the 10K and 5K races, there is also the main event – the 26.2 mile marathon – a 10K Corporate Challenge for teams of four to six and the Wee Nessie run for pre-school children. Entry for the marathon is still open for charity, club and overseas runners until 5 September.
Race director Malcolm Sutherland says that every continent will once again be represented at this year’s event.
He adds, “We are delighted to be able to draw so many visiting runners from overseas and other parts of the UK, but equally delighted to see such strong support from the local community.
“When we started this event 15 years ago, we never could have predicted the success it would turn out to be. We’ve worked hard to provide a very friendly, high quality event – regardless of whether it’s the 5K or marathon everyone gets the same big event experience and goody bags – and I think that’s the reason we see so many runners turning out year after year.
“The 15th anniversary is a really significant milestone for us. It’s been an incredible journey and we can’t wait to see what the next 15 years brings.”
The finish line is based around the Event Village at the Bught Park in Inverness, where runners and spectators can enjoy the Baxters Food and Drink Fayre, a Sports Expo, live music and activities for children.
Entry can be made online at www.lochnessmarathon.com up until midnight on Monday 5 September. The event is also active on Facebook at facebook.com/lochnessmarathon and on Twitter @nessmarathon
