Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Paschal Donohoe, attended the formal signing of a contract for the development of the National Indoor Arena at the National Sports Campus on Friday last. Following a procurement process, the National Sports Campus Development Authority has awarded the contract for construction of the Arena to Heron Buckingham JV.
Minister Donohoe said: ‘I am delighted that the process to award a contract for the construction of the National Indoor Arena has now been completed. The new National Indoor Arena will address a significant gap in our national sporting infrastructure. It will provide world-class indoor training facilities in which Irish athletes can train and prepare for international competitions. I look forward to seeing work on the Arena commencing in the coming weeks’.
The National Indoor Arena comprises;
– A National Indoor Athletics Training Centre;
– A National Indoor Training Centre designed to cater for a wide range of sports; and
– A National Gymnastics Training Centre.
The Minister added: ‘I visited the Campus before Christmas and I was very pleased to see the progress that has been made on the development of the Irish Institute of Sport High Performance Centre and the Campus Pavilion Building. These projects are due to be completed in July 2015, in time to benefit Irish athletes in their preparations for the Rio 2016 Olympics. There has been excellent progress in the development of facilities at the National Sports Campus in the last two years. Today sees the start of a further phase of exciting development at Campus’.
