Daisyhouse Housing Association seeking women to run/walk in Mini Marathon

March 10, 2015 by admin

Daisyhouse Housing Association seeking women to run/walk in Mini Marathon for them.Small Dublin based homeless charity Daisyhouse is looking for women to take part in this year’s VHI Women’s Mini Marathon on Monday, 1st of June and raise funds. To get your fundraising pack call Rita on 01 454 6078 or e-mail your details to rita@daisyhouse.org

‘We are looking to recruit as many women as possible to represent Daisyhouse at this year’s event. Every euro they will raise is vital as we receive no Government Funding. Every week we have to turn away 4-6 women as we do not have the funds to support them’– said Daisyhouse Fundraising Manager Rita Lucnikovaite.

People become homeless for a variety of reasons including domestic violence, abuse, ill health, addiction, relationship breakdown, trafficking or loss of income. When this happens, they need a ‘space’ where they can recover from the trauma of their experience, feel safe and secure and, in time, move forward in their lives.  Daisyhouse provides such a space. Our Supported Temporary Accommodation and 18+ month Personal Support Programmes are individually tailored to enable and empower our clients to rebuild their lives and gain the skills and confidence needed for independent living.

Orla Gilroy CEO said ‘Daisyhouse has over 25 years’ experience; we know that it takes time to rebuild someone’s life. The Government’s Policy of six month in accommodation does not factor in the many complex issues that people face – people like the women who come to Daisyhouse.   Providing a secure space is only part of what is required to move forward with your life– this combined with a tailored approach to their individual needs, empowers them to change and improve their lives, leaving homelessness behind them.  This is why we provide an 18+ month programme.’

Only then will we prevent people from returning to homelessness, only then will you break the cycle.
