Gold for Galway at European Championships of Kettlebell Lifting

Galway was well represented at the European Championships of Kettlebell Lifting held in the Gdynia Sports Centre in Poland from 11-15th May with a total medal tally of 6 for Galway city and county combined.

Six athletes from Galway who qualified for the AIKLF (All Ireland Kettlebell Lifting) Irish Team at the Nationals in February competed in Poland.

Sarah Smith (club coach and AIKLF Connaught representative)took gold in Snatch discipline 16kg weight in open and veteran category in 63kg weight division.

Ella Stanton -Bronze in Snatch Discipline 16kg weight in veteran category 68kg weight division.

Didier Bouic -Gold ,Long Cycle Discipline ,24kgs weight in open category, 78kg weight division.

Galway County (Portumna)

Steve Killeen -Gold, Long Cycle discipline ,24kgs weight, veteran category,85kg weight division.

Pat Kelly -Bronze, Biathalon (Snatch and Jerk) 24kgs weight,open category, 95kg weight division

Olivia Cahalan -Gold,Snatch discipline, 16kgs weight, veteran category, 63 kg weight division

“It was an honour to represent our country at such a prestigious event, the Irish team were solid throughout and all our hard work has paid off, Galway athletes rose to the challenge and delivered results under competition pressure” said Sarah Smith club coach and director.

The Irish team took 30 medals in total and are now ranked third in the world.

Over 400 athletes from 24 European countries competed at the event

Galway is busying training for the next ten minute competition, the Cup of Ireland held in Wexford in July.
