Recently relaunched The Stables Fitness & Wellbeing is located just off the M11 near Gorey, Co Wexford. It is tucked away up a serene, leafy avenue in lovingly converted farm buildings. It boasts its own running track or ‘Steeplechase’ a climbing wall and various studios for Fitness Training, Yoga and Pilates. Equipment varies from the traditional treadmills to tyres, ropes and bales of hay. The fun, fresh air and variety has been attracting groups of young people recently as founder Anna Syme aims to make fitness fun for kids beyond the traditional sports played in the schoolyard. The Stables aims to which promote physical and mental wellbeing and believe it’s never too early to start!
A recent study from Safefood states that one in four Irish children are overweight and startlingly one in ten is obese. We as a nation are aware of there is a problem but a lot of us assume that kids ‘grow out of it’ themselves. The government is aware of the problem and is taking measures such as a sugar tax on fizzy drinks but how can we change attitudes where it matters most – in the young kids themselves.
At the Stables recently launched kids fitness classes are relaxed and the focus is on achieving belly laughs from a variety of activities while also promoting healthy competition. As her three kids ‘test’ the new climbing wall in the background Anna says “As a mother myself I believe that making fitness a fun and happy experience is a gift you give your kids as it is something they will carry with them and continue to benefit them into adulthood”.
A huge success this year was the launch of the kids summer fitness camps, which saw 80 children taking part in obstacle courses, healthy eating workshops and fun filled fitness challenges over 2 weeks in the summer holidays.
The camps offered a unique chance for children to get outside and become more conscious of their health and wellbeing, Easter and Summer camps as well as classes during tern time will definitely be on the calendar for next year.
The Stables currently offers an exciting program of classes including Personal Training, Group Fitness Classes, Pilates and Yoga (including pregnancy yoga). Recently added classes include Mother and Baby fitness classes, after school Kids Fitness Classes and Men only Pilates.
The Stables has expanded, but the warm welcome and dedicated attention which clients receive from the trainers here has remained the same. Just ask some of the clients who have been training with Anna and her team over the last 5 years!
