Race Around Ireland

September 10, 2012 by admin

Sunday September 9th saw the start of the 4th Annual World Cup Event – Race Around Ireland in association with Meath Tourism, Meath County Council and Trim Town Council. Last Sunday evening the field of International and home riders departed from the magnificent backdrop of Trim Castle.

Riders and crew from 9 countries are taking part with Solo riders having to spend up to 22hours a day on the bike over the 2100km route as they pass through 22 counties and over 75,000 feet of climbing.

Thanks to BlackBlox, people are able to follow each rider using the live tracking feed onwww.racearoundireland.com.

The 2011 men’s solo race was won by Monaco rider Valerio Zamboni. His successful completion of the Race saw him become the Ultra-Marathon World Champion and he has returned this year in the hope of retaining his title. He wont have it all his own way as 2010 Race Around Ireland winner Bernd Paul from Germany and Irish riders including Race Across America finisher Donncha Cuttriss are out to stop him.

Teams are cycling in a relay format day and night to finish the event and the British team Strategic Lions are currently on track to break the current record and due to finish at in Navan on Wednesday morning.

For your chance to win a weekend for 2 just get on the course and take a photo of one of the riders and send it to info@racearoundireland.com
