As well as a commitment to make superfoods more accessible and convenient to all Super U have also made a pledge to give back to the planet. They have forged a strong partnership with One Tree Planted , a non profit organisation who plant trees all over the world to restore areas affected by deforestation. With every order placed on the Super U website the brand will donate $1 to plant 1 tree. So far over 8000 trees have been planted in South and North America, Africa, Australia and Europe.
Super U founders Sean Ali and Charlotte Bailey launched the brand in 2017 during their final year at Nottingham Trent. Charlotte had been struggling after a diagnosis with Coeliac Disease and the couple were realising how much her fatigue and digestive issues were restricting her normal living. They decided to take matters into their own hands and look for other ways to help her condition. After experimenting with a variety of superfoods they discovered how much these ingredients were having a positive impact on not only Charlotte’s health but Sean’s too. This is
where their journey began to help more people feel healthier and happier through the power of superfoods.
Unfortunately in November 2018, 1 year into Super U, Sean was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma – a form of blood cancer at the age of 26. After a hard and courageous battle through chemotherapy and radiotherapy Sean received the all-clear the following July and is still officially in remission. The tough ride has given both Sean and Charlotte the drive and determination to encourage people to live life to the fullest.
Charlotte comments ‘ When creating the brand we were becoming increasingly aware how the stresses and strains of general life were affecting people’s ability to provide their bodies with the daily nutrients they need to be at their best. We wanted to create a product proposition that would take just five minutes to incorporate into your daily routine but would also be hugely beneficial health wise as well as being convenient and accessible ’
Sean goes on to explain ‘ With both of us suffering with our health while on the Super U brand journey it became our number one priority to focus on fuelling and supporting our bodies as much as possible. This is something we are so passionate about and wanted to translate into what we offer to our customers by providing them with a natural way to boost their health and wellbeing.’
All Super U products are available on the brand website ( www.superu.co.uk ) but products can also be purchased from Selfridges, Whole Foods Market and John Bell & Croyden.
