The Colour Dash 5k is returning to the Phoenix Park

May 14, 2014 by admin

The Irish Cancer Society has announced the news of something colourful this summer. Their hugely successful ‘Colour Dash’ 5k is returning to the Phoenix Park on July 26th – following a sold out event last year, and there are more exciting new locations to be announced.

The unique five kilometre ‘dash’ will see participants of all ages running, walking or jogging the course. ‘Dashers’ will start the route wearing a white t-shirt that is quickly transformed into a colourful work of art. At each kilometre, a different colour – representing a different cancer – of powder paint will be thrown at participants, creating a kaleidoscope of colour.

100% of the money raised from the Colour Dash will go towards the Irish Cancer Society’s work to help people reduce their risk of getting cancer, to support those living with cancer and supporting on-going research into better ways to diagnose and treat cancer. One in three Irish people will be diagnosed with cancer during the course of their lifetime and every person is affected in some way by this disease. This event offers a fun way for friends, families and colleagues to fight back against cancer.

ICS Colour Dash“Cancer is a serious subject and we are pleased to be able to offer a fun and colourful way for people to take on cancer together.” said John McCormack Chief Executive Officer, Irish Cancer Society. “Not only will our second Colour Dash raise funds for the Society’s work  but it also encourages people to get out and get active – improving fitness and contributing towards a healthy lifestyle – which as we know helps reduce the risk of cancer. We hope to see thousands of people come and participate in the event representing the four most common cancers, prostate, breast, bowel and lung, and of course celebrating cancer survivors.”

Kevin Whelan, Marketing Controller, Crown Paints Ireland Limited said “We’re delighted to be involved with the Colour Dash again this year. It generated such warmth and good feeling last year and raises funds for such an important cause that we’re thrilled to see it has grown to a three centre event this year. Best of luck to everyone planning to take part from all of us at Crown Paints.”

The five kilometres of the Colour Dash are: 1km: Yellow – representing lung cancer, 2km: Green – representing bowel cancer, 3km: Purple – representing cancer survivorship, 4km: Blue – representing prostate cancer, 5km: Pink – representing breast cancer.

The Irish Cancer Society and Crown are calling on people to add some colour to their lives and sign up today to take part in the Irish Cancer Society’s Colour Dash. Together, we won’t give up until cancer does. To register for your place CallSave our team on 1850 60 60 60 or visit www.cancer.ie
