If you think strong is the new slim, then how about making a career at the gym? That was the message today as Leisure Industry Academy, a home-grown provider of certified training courses for personal trainers, launched its programme in Dublin. The company, which has existing offices in Belfast, Derry and Qatar, has teamed up with ICON Health Club to provide courses for those wishing to qualify as fitness instructors, studio instructors and personal trainers. The move to the capital follows a huge increase in demand for certified training in fitness.
Founded by Irish entrepreneurs and fitness experts Lois Cameron and Mark Henry, the company already employs 10 trainers across its offices and to date has helped thousands gain certification in personal training. Already four trainers are in place in Dublin running 20 courses based at state of the art health club, ICON.
Leisure Industry Academy Director Lois Cameron said: “Interest in keeping fit and healthy has grown exponentially in the last few years with more and more people wanting to build a career in the fitness industry. We are really excited to be bringing our selection of courses to Dublin and expanding our already growing network of specialist trainers and students. If you’re the type of person who thinks you can do better than your instructor, or want to take the first steps in a fitness career, then get in touch.”
Leisure Industry Academy’s focus is to help people find a career suited to them in the health and fitness industry, whether it is further developing their role as a health and fitness professional or a complete career change. The Academy offers a diverse array of courses to suit all levels and abilities including Fitness Instruction, Kettlebell Training, Sports Nutrition and Olympic Lifting. Courses are taught by fitness professionals and tutors who specialise in areas such as Pre and Post Natal Exercise, Mental Health and Diabetes and Obesity.
Darren Mailey, a former student of LIA said, “For years I was miserable doing menial roles in construction for which I has no passion. I always had a keen interest in the health and fitness industry, but with no qualifications thought a career like that was completely unrealistic. Leisure Industry Academy helped me develop a career plan in fitness and two years on I am a qualified Personal Trainer, with my own studio. I now employ 3 Personal Trainers and have around one hundred clients come to my studio every week.”
