Gaelforce Events have once again tried to be innovative and ahead of the rest with another new event – a women’s only adventure race. They have found that throughout all their events, the main competitors are male and they wanted to provide an event that women may feel more comfortable taking part, especially if it is their first adventure race. There is no reason why as many women as men should not cross the Gaelforce line and feel that moment of pure triumph.
But we warned they aren’t going any lighter on the women with a good challenging course in Connemara. The 23km route will take you cycling down the gorgeous Inagh Valley aswell as along Coillte forestry tracks. The run sees you run along the Killary Fjord before taking on part of the Western Way. And then there is the 500m kayak. They are providing free kayaking lessons on the morning of the event for those who may not have kayaked before.
So many women have participated in some sort of fun run, walk or cycle event before, so the race organisers have chosen a course that is achievable, a nice step up, yet setting a good challenge.
According to Mona Purcell of Gaelforce; “The race will be held in the afternoon allowing competitors to travel here and back in the one day, but we suggest it’s a good excuse for a girls weekend away in the west! It’s a lovely course and a great step first step those looking to get into adventure racing ”
Registration is still open, so why not try something new for a Saturday and give it a go!
