Did you make a New Year’s resolution to exercise more and get fit in 2014? Do you want to stick to that resolution? Oxfam Ireland has just the motivation you need in Trailtrekker 2014!
This 25km or 50km trek through the stunning Mourne Mountains takes place on Saturday 7 June 2014 and you can register today at oxfamireland.org/trek!
“Every step you take in the breath-taking 25km route or the popular 50km event will make a positive difference”, said Nikki Witten, Oxfam Ireland’s Community Events Executive. “You will be supporting Oxfam’s work, from emergency support in times of crisis to long-term development projects, along with campaigning that empowers people to speak out together.”
Need a bit more motivation? You don’t have to do it alone! Trailtrekker 2014 is a team event so you can do it with your best friends, training together, trekking together and supporting each other every step of the way! Why not make it a weekend away with friends and do something you enjoy while raising vital funds to help people affected by poverty and injustice around the world.
Oxfam will also be there to support you: from how to motivate your team, to training advice, to fund-raising packs.
“And this year we are launching the new and improved Trailtrekker with chipped timing for all participants; times texted to participants on the evening of the event; free bus transfers to the starting point for each event; medals for all participants; an altered route taking in the most scenic spots in the Mourne Mountains; and a designated party on the night of the event”, said Nikki Witten.
Dominick Branigan (32) from Drogheda, Co. Louth conquered Trailtrekker last year and was a member of team DC Brothers who finished first in the 50km event. Dominick said: “Parts of it were tough but it’s been an amazing experience. The fact that we were doing it for Oxfam was really important and helped to get us through.”
The winning team in the 25km was GAM Team A, who completed the picturesque trek in just three hours and 37 minutes. Speaking after the event which saw over 350 trekkers take part, team captain Darin Kirwan (42) from Lucan, Co. Dublin, said: “Trailtrekker has the feel-good factor; the sense of achievement is great. You’re doing it for such a good cause.”
This year, do more than just stick to your New Year’s resolutions and achieve something extraordinary that will wow your friends, prove something to yourself and make a lasting difference.
