This week Nike launched the world’s largest virtual running event, the Nike+ Human Race 2009. On 24 October, Nike is encouraging people to put on their running shoes and be part of a global online movement, with runners logging their own ultimate 10k wherever they are in the UK – or the world.
The growth of online communities from Facebook to Twitter has led Nike to embrace a new way of running from a physical race to an individual running event which sits within the virtual world.
‘Nike has always innovated and the world’s biggest virtual race will continue that. The Nike+ Human Race 2009 celebrates the growing importance of the online running community – giving people the chance to compete in a global run via Nike Plus but also the power to decide the time they race and where.” Leo Sandino Taylor, NIKE UK Head of PR & Corporate Comms.
Whether in an urban city environment or across the highest peaks, Nike is asking runners to complete their chosen 10k on 24 October, record the results on Nikeplus.com, the world’s largest online running community, using the Nike+ SportBand or Nike+ iPod Sport Kit and become part of the virtual Nike+ Human Race 2009.
A global leader board will be hosted on NikePlus.com, with the fastest male and female from the UK championed and rewarded with a top prize. To help you prepare for race day Nikeplus.com will feature training programmes so you can aim to run faster than ever before on 24 October.
Registration is now open via www.nikeplus.com and participation is free. Runners who sign up to Nike+ Human Race 2009 will also receive an exclusive race t-shirt to run in on race day, and also be provided with online training tips and inspiration from now through to race day.
