Herbs for Everyday Living Seminar

April 22, 2010 by admin

Roisin O’Kelly  Herbalist & Naturopath will be presenting a seminar in Dublin (with CNM on May 11th) which will provide safe and practical knowledge on how to use traditional herbal remedies for the whole family.

Roisins passion and love of herbs and her desire to teach the basic simple techniques of herbal medicine to enhance the everyday diet has brought her far and wide. Recently in conjunction with the National Botanic Gardens and the Friends in Ireland Charity Roisin has visited Luisikisiki in South Africa where she was teaching the growing of herbs/vegetables and seedlings in *‘Square Foot Boxes’. Recently the National Botanic Gardens recommended these ‘Square Foot Boxes’ as a solution to world hunger.

Roisin says that these boxes would greatly benefit us at home here in Ireland as well. They are a cost effective way for family to increase their nutrient intake by using herbs and by growing them themselves.

This seminar will focus on Herbal Medicine and the exciting developments that are currently going on in the area. In recent years, herbs which have been used for thousands of years for common conditions have been scientifically tested showing statistically significant results for their efficacy as medicine. Double blind placebo controlled trials have shown just how effective they can be for everyday complaints. Herbalists now have tradition and science on their side when using herbs such as Cayenne for poor circulation, Garlic for the common cold and viruses, Devils claw for Arthritis and general aches and pains, Tea tree for stubborn fungal infections, Echinacea for lowered immune system, Bilberry for improved vision, Hawthorn for cardiac problems and many more.

Creating your own herbal pharmacy at home can be simple once you know where to start. This evening seminar will introduce you to the possibilities that already exist in your kitchen and how to build on these for simple but effective remedies. This seminar will explore the traditional use of herbs and the emerging scientific evidence base.

Roisin will be teaching how simple changes to your lifestyle can make a huge difference to your health.

DUBLIN: Tuesday 11th May 7.00pm-9.00pm

At Griffith College Dublin, South Circular road, Dublin 8

* ‘Square Foot Boxes’ are easy to make wooden boxes, 4ft x 4ft, which are divided into 16 squares which allows a variety of plants to be used. They are accessible, easy to water, weed and feed but provide enough nutrition for a small family.)
