Following on from the success of last month’s SSE Airtricity Fingal 10k in Swords, the third event in the Dublin Race Series, the Frank Duffy 10 Mile race will take place this Saturday the 22nd August in the Phoenix Park with just over 5,100 runners, joggers and walkers registered.
The 10 mile park route provides the perfect build up to the SSE Airtricity Dublin Marathon in October and attracts runners of all levels. This year, Mark Kenneally, Sean Hehir and Gary Murray will be challenging Derek Hawkins who ran 2:14:15 in the Commonwealth Games Marathon in Glasgow for the men’s title.
Whilst Gemma Rankin, placing 5th in Dublin last year and 2nd in Manchester last April in a time of 2:40:34 will provide competition for Maria McCambridge in the women’s race.
In addition to this, Team Dublin Marathon will also be taking part this Saturday in preparation for the Dublin Marathon later this year. The Team which consists of five men and five women have been following personalised programmes and weekly training schedules from Maria McCambridge and Gary Crossan with the hope of conquering the 26.2 miles on the 26th October.
Commenting on this year’s 10 Mile Race, Jim Aughney, race director for the SSE Airtricity Dublin Marathon said “The popular Dublin Race Series, now in its fourteenth year, is well underway and we’re delighted with how everything is going so far. The sun has been shining and the support for our runners has been fantastic so we’re hoping that our famous Dublin supporters will be out again this Saturday lining out the picturesque surroundings of Phoenix Park.”
Race organisers are reminding entrants that there will be road closures in place from early morning in the Phoenix Park so entrants are being advised to allow additional time to get there ahead of the race start at10am sharp. A shuttle bus will also operate from Frank Sherwin Bridge 8.30-9.30 and will return after the race. For the Race Series events, the route will stay the same as last year with the addition of a bike park for the participants at all of the races.
