Challenge Galway expected to bring 25,000 people to Galway City this June

Challenge Galway, the epic triathlon which is happening in Galway from June 24 to 26th is bringing close to 25,000 people to the Galway City. The festival will see thousands take to the roads and the waters in Galway to battle it out over the three disciplines, Sprint, Olympic and Try a Tri race.  For anyone looking for a challenge or fun way to spend a Sunday, the full and half races taking place on Sunday 26th June have slots left, to enter simply log onto www.challenge-galway.eu.

Challenge Galway, the festival will be centred on Galway Docks with a health centred expo village will be in place along with plenty of food and hospitality for spectators to enjoy.  The Riptide Movement and The Strypes have been confirmed to headline Rock the Docks – Galway’s newest outdoor festival.

Rock the Docks, which takes place from 24 to 26 June at Galway’s docklands will feature live music from some of Ireland’s best loved live acts. Galway’s newest music festival, sponsored by Monroe’s Live and Bulmers, in conjunction with the Challenge Galway Triathlon, expects to welcome over 25,000 people to the city of Galway for the duration of the festivities.

The Riptide Movement will headline on Friday, June 24th and Cavan band The Strypes will headline on Saturday, June 25th. On Sunday afternoon from 12 noon, a host of local and national acts will take to the stage to perform throughout the day in celebration with the Triathlon participants as they cross the finish line located at the centre of the celebrations at Galway’s docklands. Rock the Docks festival tickets, priced at €15 per night are available from www.monroes.ie. Tickets are strictly over 18’s. Doors 6pm.

Challenge Galway 2016

The race will take in a swim in Oranmore, a ride along the Wild Altlantic Way in both Galway and Clare, from the Cliffs Of Moher, pass the lunar landscape of the Burren Plateau to the UNESCO Global Geopark. Then onto the run around the streets of Galway, with a finish at the festival epicentre on Galway docklands. Finishers will be treated a special Galway atmosphere with live music and supporters all there at the closing of the race.

Challenge Galway will celebrate the final finisher with a music showcase and special Galway carnival atmosphere, showcasing the taking part and the unique and special nature of this now world famous race brand.

“This is year one of this event in Galway and we are delighted to see all the race disciplines have sold out. We are hoping this can now be permanent fixture on the Galway festival calendar. It is about much more than just a race, it is a weekend to celebrate in Galway through music, food and sport. The main stage acts are going to raise the roof in terms of entertainment and this will also make for a very special finish for all participants on the Saturday,” explained Liam Heavin CEO Challenge Galway.

For all junior triathletes, there will be a junior sprint Challenge Galway on Saturday 25 June, all junior athletes from 10 to 15 can register today to compete. This is a free event and is happening in Renville in Oranmore the Junior Challenge Galway will be a huge highlight of this very sporting and healthy event.

The Challenge Galway Village will be open from  Friday 24th June  to Sunday 26th June.
