Host A Healthy Event Of Your Choice In Your Local Area / Contact Europa Donna Ireland For Support
Europa Donna Ireland are calling on women and men throughout Ireland to participate in their ‘Making Healthy Choices’ campaign in the lead up to National Breast Health Day on the 15th of October 2011. In raising awareness about the importance of a healthy lifestyle to breast health Europa Donna Ireland are asking the people of Ireland to hold an event in their community for people of all ages and gender. Any event involving physical activity, from walking to cycling, hiking or even belly dancing, as was organised by a group last year, is encouraged.
National Breast Health Day works as an annual reminder about the importance of lifestyles factors that can influence future breast health and help prevent breast cancer.
Speaking about this year’s Breast Health Day, Dympna Watson, Chairperson of Europa Donna Ireland, said: “Increasingly studies show that a healthy balanced lifestyle can lower the risk of developing breast cancer. This year’s ‘Making Healthy Choices’ campaign aims to highlight just how easy it really is to make a difference for the future of a woman’s breast health. Simple lifestyle changes such as increasing physical activity, eating a balanced diet and avoiding weight gain can help prevent up to 33% of breast cancer cases. Today we are calling on women and men around Ireland to organise a simple event which will help highlight a serious subject.”
“If you would like to host an event in your community we’d encourage you to contact Europa Donna Ireland and we’ll support you as much as we can in helping to publicise your event. It’s important that people understand that this is all about fun and raising awareness and there is no fundraising element involved. All you simply have to do is take part in a healthy activity either on the day or during the week leading up to the 15th of October. It could be as simple as walking to buy the newspaper that day!”
This year’s campaign has gone live on the Europa Donna website and social networking channels such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. By logging onto the Breast Health Day website you will find a variety of materials available to you for using both online and offline in the weeks leading up to the 15th of October.
