Spinal cord research charity Wings For Life, releases lighthearted video to celebrate the return of global running event World Run
Runners in London’s Battersea Park were in for a surprise earlier this month as they were greeted by hundreds of enthusiastic supporters applauding, cheering and waving flags during their morning run.
The ninety-second video reveals a series of unsuspecting runners being caught off-guard during their mid-morning run, as they find themselves being greeted by crowds of cheering fans appearing from all areas of the park.
The activity gave runners a taste of the exhilarating atmosphere that occurs during the annual Wings For Life World Run, which will be taking place on May 3rd at Silverstone Circuit, one of the world’s most iconic motorsport venues and the home of British motorsport.
Emily Spriggs from London said;
“I really wasn’t expecting any of this, I was just running round the park and all of a sudden hundreds of people appeared out of nowhere and started cheering for me. At first, I thought they must have got the wrong person or I had somehow run into a race happening in the Park. It was great- I felt like the whole World was behind me!”
The global event, which is in its second year, challenges participants to race against 40,000 people from over 35 countries. Starting at the same time in each country, runners set off together and are given 30 minutes before a ‘Catcher Car’ begins to follow, eliminating runners as it passes them. The last runner to be caught worldwide is the global champion.
For the UK leg, Silverstone Circuit will welcome thousands of runners to take part in the event and its route features a full lap of the circuit before heading into surrounding Northamptonshire countryside.
