Lisduff Adventure Farm will host Ireland’s first Bogathon later this month. Bogathon is a 5km mud run and entrants will attempt to complete a military designed course like no other, navigating some of Ireland’s most rugged countryside and barren bog lands. The Bogathon will take place in Lisduff Adventure Farm, Lisduff, Errill, County Laois on Sunday 27th April 2014 at 1.00pm, (enrolment from 11.00am). Individuals or teams of four can register now at www.bogathon.ie. Entry costs €30 per person or €100 per team of four.
The Bogathon event is open to anyone over 16 who feels up to the challenge – from marathon runners to endurance athletes, first timers and everyone in between. This hard-core obstacle course is designed to challenge participants in every way, testing physical fitness, mental fortitude, stamina and strength of character. Bogathon is also calling on the servicemen and women of Ireland to participate in The Force 4 Challenge, which will see teams of four from the Irish Defence Forces, Army, Navy, Air Corps, Gardai and Fire Service go head to head in a battle of wills. The pride and honour of each profession is on the line, as units try to prove that their force is the one to beat.
In The Bogathon Challenge Trophy, members of the public will get the unique opportunity to test their mettle against the forces. And The Bogathon Challenge Cup will see men and women of Ireland battle it out on the boglands. Team entries from across all sports are also welcome, whether its athletics, soccer, boxing, martial arts, GAA, cricket, rowing, sailing or any others that up for the challenge. If you’re only interested in having some fun and messing around in the mud, then Bogathon has something for you too – for maximum fun, fancy dress is encouraged. All participants who complete the event will receive refreshments and a Bogathon T-shirt, (as well as a hose down after the event).
The nominated charity for Bogathon is C.A.M.P.,(The Cheshire Adventure Motivation Project), the official charity of the Irish Air Corps. This organization offers a unique opportunity for people with physical disabilities to gain confidence through adventure activities. C.A.M.P. provides an environment where personal fears are faced and overcome. The organising staff is highly experienced and dedicated to working with each participant. The C.A.M.P. team produces a variety of challenging activities, including rock climbing, hover crafting, krypton challenge, team building events, canoeing, kayaking and boating. The charity runs projects around Ireland and has motivated and improved the self-confidence of participants for the past 25 years. Entrants of the Bogathon can also decide to support a charity of their choice.
