Irish triathlete Laura Tighe flew into Dublin yesterday afternoon on the 12.10 flight from Barcelona. She was not only sporting her pearly white smile as she stepped out on the tarmac at Dublin airport but was donning a coveted bronze medal that she claimed at the Spanish National Championships held in Aguilas, Murcia. What is more remarkable about her achievement is that Laura only competed in her first triathlon 18 months ago. During that time she has made her way onto the Triathlon Ireland Elite Women’s Squad and currently ranks in the top three women in Ireland. Her success has spurred her on to compete on the world stage and the dream of transitioning into a full-time professional athlete is becoming more apparent. Laura’s next aim is to secure a main sponsor for the coming season and with Rio perhaps happening a bit too soon for the new triathlete, Tokyo is most definitely in her sights.
