Killary Gaelforce were delighted to be announced as the winner of the National Sport Tourism Innovation Award at a presentation attended by Paul O’Connell and Keith Wood in Limerick. The award was to be conferred on an event that has, in the European Sport Tourism Summit’s own words, ‘demonstrated the greatest level of innovation in delivery, participant or visitor experience’.
Killary Gaelforce now organises nine events each year ranging from a 10km trail run to their iconic 67km adventure race Gaelforce West. Their events attract visitors from all over the world. Having brought adventure racing to Ireland 10 years ago they have become the leading name in this exciting sport and Gaelforce West has become the race that everyone wants to complete.
As part of Killary Adventure Co., Killary Gaelforce is an important component of an organisation that has been to the forefront of innovation in the adventure industry in Ireland for over 30 years. Adventure holidays, cycling and walking tours and global expeditions are all part of their business, which they have managed to sustain and expand through the economic downturn.
Mona Purcell, Race Director for Killary Gaelforce, said “We are delighted to have been awarded this National Innovation award as it recognises the efforts we have made to lead the way in adventure race organisation in Ireland. It has always been our objective to continually improve, expand and innovate in what we offer in order to stay at the forefront of the industry”.
