The 8th year of the Leenane Mountain Walking Festival will take place from the 1st – 3rd May, 2015. The Leenane Mountain Walking Festival has become a major successful event for Connemara and the area.
This festival has been designed to suit all levels of walkers from casual low level walks to the more experienced! Each day there is a choice of at least 3 walks from Strenuous to low level and there is also a guided cycle on both days of the festival. This year’s programme includes the firm favourite Mweelrea Mountain walk as well as Maamtrasna, Ben Gorm and the Sheffreys to name a few. Michael Gibbons is back by popular demand, as is Geologist Kevin O Callaghan. The full programme of events can be found on the village website. www.leenanevillage.com
Each walk is guided by qualified, experienced guides. The unique element of the festival is that the local farmers get involved with guiding the walks and share their vast knowledge, folklore and history of the land. With the farmers involvement in the event, they kindly grant the participants permission to cross their lands and visit areas that are not normally open to the public. Transport to and from starting and finishing points will be provided. A unique part of the experience is on return, walkers are greeted with tea/coffee & scones from various local businesses.
Other evening events over the weekend will include a talk from local amateur historian & ceili
Walkers must register online for the events. For a full details and list of events please visit www.leenanevillage.com/shop, Please email mwf@leenanevillage.com with any questions or call Martin on 087 6737075
