August 20, 2015 by LifeandFitness

Players from the Munster Rugby Team took time out from training on Monday (August 17th) to help launch the Limerick leg of the first ever Pieta 100 National Cycle Weekend taking place on Sunday, September 27th.

The cycles, set to become part of the Pieta House fundraising calendar, are also taking place in Cork, Galway and Dublin (TM Cycle).

Munster rugby players help kick off Limerick leg of inaugural Pieta House National Cycle Weekend in LimerickCyclists will be able to choose from either a 50km or 100km route, both starting at Mungret GAA club, Mungret Village. Participants will pass the Pieta House Midwest House in the first 5km, which has been providing a service to the people of the region since 2012. Heading West, those opting for the 50km route will take the coast road towards Askeaton, followed by Rathkeale, Adare and on to the final stretch back to Mungret GAA club. The 100km participants will take the coast road towards Loghill, followed by Newcastle West, Rathkeale and will then follow the same route home via Adare. The Pieta 100 National Cycle Weekend will raise much needed funds for the nine Pieta House services across the country, as well as raising awareness of the issues of suicide and self-harm. Pieta House hopes that the event will become part of their annual fundraising calendar.

“We’re committed to offering a free service but we can only continue to do this with the help and support of the people and communities throughout Ireland” said Martin O’Sullivan, Pieta House Midwest Centre manager. “Our vision is a world where suicide, self-harm and stigma have been replaced by hope, self-care and acceptance. I’d like to ask people of the Midwest to sign up to and support this cycle,” he added.

Registration and route information for the ‘Pieta 100’ Cycle in Limerick, Cork and Galway is available now at www.pieta100cycle.com
