VideoDoc, Europe’s fastest growing telehealth company, today announces a partnership with SSE Airtricity Dublin Marathon to develop a comprehensive healthcare package to ensure the wellbeing of all race participants at this year’s Dublin Marathon.

For only €8, Dublin Marathon runners can access a comprehensive health package that encompasses the most important and practical issues which may affect the health of athletes participating in endurance events. The VideoDoc clinical team are specially trained to deal with health and wellness issues which may arise acutely prior to the event or post participation when conditions are likely to arise.

Common ailments and illnesses that long distance runners can experience that the VideoDoc team will be able to address include:

  • Musculoskeletal issues
  • Wounds
  • Leg pain
  • Ankle swelling, in particular at night

Executive Board Member of the International Institute of Race Medicine, Dr Ui May Tan, who will oversee the clinical guidelines for treatment of long distance runners for VideoDoc, said ‘Dublin Marathon’s vision is to ensure runners’ safety and improve runners’ experience in the race event. We would like to introduce the ‘Running Physician’ in your pocket, a unique proposition for all runners who are partaking in the Dublin Marathon 2017 to access high quality and affordable healthcare.’

‘As day to day medical ailment is different from race related ailment, VideoDoc is a flexible tool where runners can be securely treated, diagnosed and prescribed and get follow up advice from medical doctors online who have specialised medical knowledge in race medicine. In addition, all the medical doctors in VideoDoc have direct access to me for any management or complex cases which need further intervention.’

VideoDoc CEO Mary O’Brien said ‘We are delighted to partner with Dublin Marathon and Dr. Ui May Tan. The innovative use of our technology for the Dublin Marathon demonstrates the multiple uses that VideoDoc can have. Not only can it be used for those with limited access to GPs in rural Ireland, it can also be repurposed to help train and ensure the health and well being of long distance runners and other fitness fanatics.’

This secure and convenient service can be accessed from anywhere, on your mobile device between 8am – 10pm. With VideoDoc, the runner will not need an appointment, instead they can see an Irish Medical Council registered doctor in less than 3 minutes.
