The 10th annual Croí Night Run a huge success thanks to another record 2,000 participants on the Salthill Promenade in Galway

October 18, 2024 by LifeandFitness

The 10th Annual Croí Night Run, sponsored by Benecol, in aid of Croí, the heart and stroke charity, took place on Friday, October 11th. Galway promenade provided the participants running, jogging, and walking the 5km with the most beautiful backdrop on the promenade at nightfall in ideal conditions. Organisers were delighted with the huge interest and early sell out of the event. The virtual option has continued to grow in popularity, with over 400 virtual registrations, and Croí was delighted to welcome communities from across the country to create a positive health activity in their own community.

Heart health advocate and broadcaster, Dáithí Ó’Sé, was in attendance to welcome and support participants along the 5km route, he has publicly shared his own story of how he has made changes to his daily routine to improve his own cardiovascular health. “As someone who’s made heart health a priority in my own life, it’s inspiring to see so many people come together for the 10th Croí Night Run. Events like this are a powerful reminder that we can all take small steps to protect our hearts, and I’m proud to be part of an evening that supports such a vital cause for communities across Ireland.”

“Over 2000 people joined us this year on the promenade, and both the in person and virtual the events sold out early this year.  It’s always a special event given the location, and the atmosphere and team spirit has been marvellous. With thanks to event sponsor Benecol this event provides essential funds to allow Croí to continue our lifesaving work throughout communities”, said Christine Flanagan, Croí’s Director of Fundraising.

Thanks to Benecol, 100% of the proceeds of the event will go directly to Croí. This will support the vital programme of work, across prevention and support initiatives, for patients and carers, including community health checks, awareness and education events, the Croí Connects helpline, and the Croí Courtyard Apartments, which are free to families in need while their loved ones receive heart or stroke care. Thank you to iRadio for their support as media partner.

Laura O’Connell, Senior Brand Manager at Benecol, commented, “Benecol is thrilled to be supporting the Night Run for another year. At Benecol, we believe in leading healthy, happy lives and that in order to do so, you need a healthy happy heart. That’s why we believe the work Croí are doing for Irish hearts is so important.’
