On Saturday 12th September over 1,000 runners took part in the world’s most colourful 5km, running, walking and dancing, filling the stunning grounds of Lough Cutra Castle with colour. Bringing the spectacular burst of Run or Dye colour to the heart of Gort, the event saw runners and walkers of all ages and abilities to enjoy the most colourful event the county has ever seen.
Taking place at Lough Cutra Castle, participants were showered with safe, eco-friendly, plant-based cornstarch dye in a rainbow of colours at every kilometre. After they crossed the finish line, runners and their supporters celebrated their achievement with the world’s most colourful party, the famous Dye Festival with MC Sam making sure the celebrations kept going. Participants took part in the Dye Games with crowd vs crowd competitions, Dye Blasts and Tie Dye-ing the Sky. Run or Dye will take place at five more events throughout the year across the UK so fans have plenty of opportunity to get involved and take part in an event.
Volunteers from local charity partner, Coole FC, covered the runners from head to toe with dye throughout the course as families, friends and colleagues ran and walked together.
Inspired by the ancient Hindu festival of Holi, also known as the ‘Festival of Colours’, Run or Dye gives runners, walkers and all speeds in-between, the opportunity to experience and celebrate in full colour the thrill of the Festival and introduce the idea of ‘living life on purpose’. Participants can run dressed in white and run ready or in their favourite and most extravagant costumes.
Carlos McEvoy, at Coole FC says, “We were delighted to participate in Run or Dye again this year at Lough Cutra Castle. Everyone had a brilliant time and the event is a great way to get young people to be active and get into sport whilst having fun at the same time.”
